THE U.S. WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAQ WILL REVEAL THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE BUSH & CHENEY HAVE DONE TO OUR MILITARY...

'And it will reveal what an absolute WASTE OF A TRILLION DOLLARS the Bush/Cheney-occupation-of-Iraq was... The military, soldiers' morale, and equipment will all be broken, missing, or ruined. None of the Iraqi-infrastructure we'll leave behind will work... No power, no water; almost nothing...
Except the oil facilities! (No doubt.)

One of the MANY reasons BUSH is DESPERATE to DUMP the MESS he created on the next guy. Along with the FACT that he LOST the WAR, by OCCUPYING IRAQ indefinitely -- constantly changing the "mission" every time our Troops accomplished something.

Our troops aren't stupid, they know there really isn't a "mission," anymore... other than: trying-not-to-die for a lie, whilst waitin' for Bush to slither back to Texas.
[AP: Biden comments.]
DAVENPORT, Iowa - Democrat Joe Biden charged Tuesday that President Bush's policies in Iraq are designed to confuse voters and ensure that a chaotic end to the war is delayed until after he leaves office.

Biden pointed to the turmoil that accompanied the end of the Vietnam War, with Americans plucked from the roof of the U.S. Embassy as enemy troops poured into Saigon. He said Bush wants to avoid such a stain on the end of his presidency.

"They would not be the ones who would have to deal with the reality of picking people up off the roofs of the embassy," said Biden, a Delaware senator and presidential candidate...

IN IRAQ, "VIOLENCE IS DOWN," BUT ONLY, IT SEEMS, IN THE AREAS WE HAVE ABANDONED! ...Bush will find a reason to STAY

President George W. Bush's ill-advised Iraq troop "surge" has been a total failure... it was supposed to provide the SECURITY in Baghdad necessary for the Iraqi "government" to make POLITICAL PROGRESS. The only places where violence is down, it turns out, are the areas of the country our troops abandoned to concentrate on Baghdad... which clearly shows OUR PRESENCE IS NOT HELPING. The Iraqis could/would start to clean up the whole country -- AQ, terr'ists, foreign fighters, etc. -- if our troops GOT THE HELL OUT-OF-THERE! BRING 'EM HOME... THEY WON THE "IRAQ WAR" TWO OR THREE TIMES, ALREADY. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, and the IDIOTS in Washington LOST THE WAR by staying, after the mission(s) were over...Now Bush is counting the days, hoping to DUMP the MESS on the next President. ...SELFISH, MUCH ?
And now it appears that the only thing the surge has bought him is time -- nine
months or maybe a year, during which he was able to postpone the inevitable.

(A) year in Iraq translates to over 1,000 more dead American soldiers; over $100 billion more in direct appropriations; over 15,000 more dead Iraqi civilians; and countless grievous wounds and shattered families both here and there.

In light of the costs, having bought a year of time may not seem like much of an accomplishment. But if Bush can drag things out another year or so, he can wash his hands of the whole mess and leave it for his successor to deal with...
Oh, and don't forget the REFUGEE CRISIS BUSH HAS
CREATED
IN THE MIDDLE-EAST:
Millions have fled their homes.
Nobody wants to live in Iraq
anymore, and who can blame 'em?

Bush/Cheney's neocon OCCUPATION OF IRAQ has been a DISASTER -- DEATH & DESTRUCTION, BASED ON LIES -- Epic incompetence; a trillion dollars; and a DISASTER to show... It was doomed-to-fail from the beginning, and that should be George W. Bush's "legacy!" Incompetent-failure, Herb.

George W. Bush spoke to VFWs today, on "...LESSONS FROM VIETNAM..." He did not appear to be joking!

UPDATE3 8/24, still. [Rawstory, via Buzzflash]
David Gergen on Bush:
"By invoking Vietnam, he raised the automatic question, 'Well, if you've learned so much from history, Mr. President, how did you ever get us involved in another quagmire?' ... It's surprising to me that he would go back to that, and I think he's going to get a lot of criticism." END UPDATE3.
UPDATE2 8/24, Correction - John Stewart's "VFW" quote:

END UPDATE2.
UPDATE 8/23, John Stewart [~off-the-top~] on "VFWs":
~a group to which Bush has added so many members.~
"Bush's Bogus Vietnam History Kills"
...Adolf Hitler’s Nazis built a political movement (in World War II) based in part on the myth that weak politicians in Berlin had stabbed brave German troops in the back when they were on the verge of victory (in World War I).

And it appears to be the case again today as President George W. Bush presents the history of the Vietnam War as a Rambo movie with the heroic narrative that if only the U.S. military had stuck it out, the war would have been won.

Or, more likely, the black wall of the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial would stretch most of the way to the U.S. Capitol.

After hearing his selective historical rendition of the Vietnam experience in his Aug. 22 address to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, one is tempted to ask Bush what he would have done as President in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Presumably, Bush would have prolonged or escalated the Vietnam War, although it’s doubtful he would have called up the Texas Air National Guard where he was safely ensconced, while skipping his flight physical and seeking an early discharge...
END UPDATE.
Those old Veterans, God bless 'em!
I wonder how they [really] felt, [on the inside?] being PATRONIZED by a silver-spoon coward, a phony, and friggin' 'Nam-deserter?

Impeach Alberto Gonzales... He's Bush's Attorney Generally, Not Our Attorney General! [New York Times]

COMPLETELY DERELICT IN HIS DUTIES...
Can somebody confirm if he's even a lawyer?
NY TIMES:
Members of Congress should keep in mind... the Founders gave them the impeachment power for a reason — and Mr. Gonzales’s malfeasance is just the sort they were worried about. The Constitution provides for impeachment for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” Not a clear formula, but it wasn’t meant to be...
:::
The phrase “other high crimes and misdemeanors” was intended to give Congress leeway.

Impeachment... was promoted as a tool for Congress to rein in any officeholder who “dares to abuse the power vested in him by the people.”
:::
Congress has heard extensive testimony about how Mr. Gonzales’s Justice Department has become an arm of [the Republican Party], choosing lawyers for nonpartisan positions based on politics, and bringing cases — including prosecutions that have put people in jail — to help Republicans win elections.

Mr. Gonzales’s repeated false and misleading statements to Congress are also impeachable conduct. James Iredell, whom George Washington would later appoint to the Supreme Court, told North Carolina’s ratification convention that “giving false information to the Senate” was the sort of act “of great injury to the community” that warranted impeachment.

The United States attorneys scandal is also the sort of abuse the founders worried about. Top prosecutors, most with sterling records, were apparently fired because they refused to let partisan politics guide their decisions about whether to prosecute. Madison, the father of the Constitution, noted in a speech to the first Congress that “wanton removal of meritorious officers would subject” an official to impeachment...
James Madison, he knew his Shyite... Nancy: Rebuttal? Well, get to work-on-it, Madame-lady! What-ever, please, Herb.

More GENERAL HOSPITAL... FBI Director Mueller's NOTES on Ashcroft's condition ["Feeble, Barely Lucid."]

Remember that dramatic evening in the DC Hospital I.C.U., back in 2004, where Acting-A.G. Comey, Bob Mueller, and Mrs. Ashcroft had to fend-off White House
"THUGS,"
Andy Card,
& Alberto,
who were
sent over by
Dick Cheney
to EXPLOIT
the HEAVILY
MEDICATED,
Non-Acting
Attorney General... hoping to get Ashcroft's "approval" to continue Bush's illegal-domestic-spying? It's a series, produced by the Bush White House, that we've come to know as:
...GENERAL HOSPITAL...
Well, FBI Director Mueller took notes that night! Here's Mueller's notes [portion.]:
NY Times:
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 — John Ashcroft was “barely articulate,” “feeble” and “clearly stressed” as he sat in a hospital room chair in March 2004 when top White House aides unsuccessfully tried to persuade him, as the Attorney General, to sign an extension for warrantless domestic eavesdropping on Americans, according to notes made by Robert S. Mueller III, the Director of the F.B.I.

Mr. Mueller’s notes of his visit to Mr. Ashcroft’s hospital room provide another eyewitness account of the dramatic confrontation over the secret surveillance program. They confirm an account of the encounter given by James B. Comey, the former deputy attorney general, who testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about it in May...
And confirms, again, clearly, that Bush's Attorney General Alberto Gonzales LIED under oath repeatedly to Congress and the American people*... REPEATEDLY!

*I hate that phrase, "The American People."
"The public" ...much better!

Big FAT Drug-Addict Rush Limbaugh gets an ("elite") Exclusive Interview w/ DISGRACED Bush advisor Karl Rove...

We couldn't help but COUNT THE LIES KARL ROVE TELLS Rush Limbaugh, in just this little snippet from today's interview [via: thinkprogress.org]
with #] footnotes, below...
In his interview with Rush Limbaugh this afternoon, Karl Rove claimed that the people criticizing Bush are 1] “sort of elite, 2] effete snobs who 3] can’t hold a candle to this guy. What they don’t like about him is that 4] he is common sense, that 5] he is Middle America.”

Limbaugh suggested that Bush critics are frustrated,
and the President “outsmarts ‘em.”

[Whatever... That's so... Stupid!
Limbaugh's a drug-addicted pig.]

Rove argued Bush is 6] far more intelligent than people give him credit for, and is 7] “one of the best-read people I’ve ever met,” 8] whose “passion is history.”
FOOTNOTES:
1] "Sort of elite?" HYPOCRITES. Karl has two friends; Rush is one of 'em... (Junkie's-runnin'-dry)Limbaugh lives in a $4M Florida-mansion, on a golf course.
2] "Effete snobs," ...Maybe, 'takes-one-to-know-what-effete-means? Karl outed a CIA agent -- to spite her husband. (pussy.) SNOB! Hypocrite, much?
3] Why would taxpayers/citizens "hold a candle to Bush?"
What's that even mean? ...FREAK!
4] George Bush is NOT "common-sense!"
Maybe the opposite? "uncommon-ignorance?"
5] "Middle America," again, I'm not-familiar; But
Maybe the U.S. President should be more than that!
6] George W. Bush isn't "far more intelligent" than ANYTHING! [Far-more-intelligent... Fffff--Ha ha!]
7] Bush doesn't read... That's common-knowledge.
He does like some books: "ones w/ pictures!"
8] Bush's passion is HIMSELF, & his delusions/lies -
- He's a text-book narcisist-sociopath.
*****************************

HEY KARL, WHAT'S NEXT? DIPSHlT! ...HOW 'BOUT GUANTANAMO? "'HANDS ON YOUR HEAD, PUNK!"

The Washington Post, has more on Rove,
sneaking-away from the MESS he made...
"Karl Rove's resignation will not stop our inquiry into the firings of the U.S. attorneys. He has every bit as much of a legal obligation to reveal the truth once he steps down as he does today," said Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), who has helped lead the Senate Judiciary Committee's inquiry into the dismissals...
THE FEDERAL PROSECUTOR-PURGE SCANDAL, ROVE'S PARTISAN POLLUTING OF THE COURTS, IS JUST ONE-OF-MANY SCANDALS WITH ROVE'S "PRINTS" ALL OVER IT...
White House counsel Fred F. Fielding wrote in an Aug. 1 letter to Leahy that President Bush asserted that Rove, "as an immediate presidential adviser," was immune from testifying on any of his official activities...
"OFFICIAL ACTIVITIES?" PLEASE! HOW ABOUT THE LITTANY OF ROVE'S ILLEGAL-ACTIVITIES?
A rationale often used by White House staff members for refusing to testify is that it interferes with an official's ability to advise the president, Tiefer said. "He can no longer say that an appearance would compromise his ongoing White House duties. It becomes more and more untenable for him to refuse to show up." -END-
PHONE-CALLS TO THE RNC, GEORGIE, AND ALBERTO, ET.AL., ON HOW THOSE PARTIES SHOULD MANAGE THE COVER-UPS ON THEIR OWN, AREN'T PRIVILEGED ANYMORE -- KARL ROVE IS A CITIZEN LIKE THE REST-OF-US NOW... SUBJECT TO EAVESDROPPING, INDEFINITE DETENTION, TORTURE, ETC.

THINK THE N.S.A. WOULD SPY ON HIM? FOR THE COUNTRY? I GUESS NOT! "HARRUMPH," Herb.

Karl Rove's role in Cheney's Iraq War, was TIMING it to win a couple ELECTIONS...

Markos, from dailykos/yearlykos:

KARL ROVE’S ROLE WAS IN THE
TIMING OF THE IRAQ-WAR:
1) THE “RESOLUTION,” REMEMBER SENATOR MAX CLELAND; SLANDERED TRIPLE-AMPUTEE VETERAN! –2002 MIDTERM ELECTION–

2) THE “MISSION,” STAYIN’-THE-COURSE, ET. AL., CALLED JOHN KERRY “FLIP-FLOPPER...” -–2004 ELECTIONS–-
THE “WAR,” OR PERMANENT-OCCUPATION OF IRAQ, WAS ALWAYS THE NEOCON'S-DICK CHENEY'S OBSESSION,
& BUSH, WAS UP-FOR-IT! ...LIKE A CLUELESS-CHILD.
["YEAH, WAR-PREZ'NIT, HEH HEH!"]
******BUT******
THE WHOLE IRAQ-WAR SCHEDULE,
RUSHING-OUT OF AFGHANISTAN & THE REST, WAS POLITICALLY-TIME-MANAGED BY KARL ROVE -- TO WIN A COUPLE ELECTIONS...
IF THAT'S TRUE, HOW WOULD HE BE ABLE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT?
HE'S A PIG, WITH NO CONSCIENCE... FEEL THE SHAME, HERB.

The Scurge of a Nation, karl-rove. DAMAGE DONE? Hardly*!

He in-no-way should be allowed to walk-away from the DAMAGE he has DONE... He should be monitored wherever he goes with a "roving-wiretap," no pun intended. Because he's still in cover-up mode and now-forward, he DOES NOT GET THE BENEFIT OF PRESIDENTIAL PRIVILEGE (on his "advice" calls to Al Gonzales, for example).
*************
It seems we were spared [whew!] Karl Rove's main-objectives: Thing that failed like Social Security privitization, Health "savings accounts", and the permanent Republican majority [2006!].

But he won Bush TWO ELECTIONS [if you believe Katherine Harris and Diebold] and so we got Bush's tax-policy; plusCheney and the neocon's international policies which meant a ruined reputation, destroyed military, and bankrupt Treasury...

Formal Condemnation and Repudiation of Bush, Cheney, and Their Policies Should Be the Stated Position of the U.S.A. after 2008.

DIGBY SAYETH: I doubt that anyone
overseas has been... impressed with the(Bush administration's) commitment to democracy... since they launched it directly after stealing an election at home and telling everyone who raised the slightest protest to go cheney themselves. There may be people in the world less credible on the issue of democracy, but I can't think of any who have made such a fetish of insisting that other countries do as they say but not as they do.

Furthermore, the Bush administration has such a reputation for lying and incompetence, the smart bet is to do exactly the opposite of what they prescribe in any situation. You can't go wrong assuming that if they want something it's for self-serving reasons and that if they get what they want, they will screw it up so badly that even if it were well-intentioned it would come out badly anyway.

This is going to be a big problem for the US for a long time to come. People may recognize that Bush and Cheney are somewhat unique cases, but they also know that the bipartisan political establishment pretty much backed everything he did. It makes it very hard to argue that anyone else will be substantially different...

It is imperative that whoever wins the presidency... makes it their first priority to distance themselves from the Bush administration's policies... Regardless of the merits of Cheney's strategic wet dreams, which in my view are nearly non-existent, the perception of them overseas are toxic and are distorting the world's politics. And that is making everything much more unpredictable and dangerous --- exactly what we do not need.

No matter what a new administration does, the single most important rhetorical tool they must employ is Bush bashing. And I mean that seriously. Our credibility around the world is moribund until the US government repudiates George W. Cheney. -END-
DIGBY-WISE MAN...

Combine Digby's conclusions right-there... w/ my title at the top, and that's what I've been tryin' to say for-awhile... The world needs to know that Bush/Cheney wa a CANCER on America, not the norm, nor the "new"!
And we're gonna get well/better...
Again... Period! Signed, Herb.

Dick Cheney, making-sense in 1994: "A U.S. Occupation of Iraq would be a Quagmire!" and "How many dead Americans is Saddam worth? Not very many!"

UPDATE - Link to video of Darth Cheney in 1994, via Americablog...

BUSTED! Published: August 12, 2007

...a now wildly popular video on YouTube that shows Dick Cheney explaining in 1994 that trying to take over Iraq would be a "bad idea" and lead to a "quagmire."

Dick Cheney, at the conservative
American Enterprise Institute,
April 15, 1994...

BACKGROUND: Cheney had helped direct the Gulf War for President George H.W. Bush. That effort was later criticized for not taking Baghdad and officials like Cheney had to explain why...
Here's the transcript:

Q: Do you think the US, or UN, should have moved into Baghdad (in 1991) ?

CHENEY, A: No... Because if we'd gone to Baghdad we would have been all alone. There wouldn't have been anybody else with us.

There would have been a U.S. occupation of Iraq...

Once you got to Iraq and... took down Saddam Hussein's government, what are you going to put in its place?
:::
It's a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq.

(1991 Gulf War... W)e were able to do our job with... few casualties... But for the 146 Americans killed in action, and for their families -- it wasn't a cheap war. And the question for the president, in terms of whether or not we went on to Baghdad... was how many additional dead Americans is Saddam worth?

Our judgment was, not very many, and I think we got it right.

Another RECORD CROP of OPIUM & Heroin... Threatens Our SOLDIERS in Afghanistan, and Iraq...

It's easy for soldiers to score heroin in Afghanistan...
Simultaneously stressed and bored, U.S. soldiers
are turning to the widely available drug
for a quick escape...
There's a number of routes -- air-land-sea -- this Afghani-poison will take on it's way to the other-war, the endless (occupation) War in Iraq... Unfortunately, it'll "taste" just-as-good in Baghdad, as it does in Bagram... I say that FEARING (FOR OUR TROOPS!) that the high-quality Heroin might make a(nother) TOUR IN IRAQ during their religious civil-war more bearable -- heck, it might even make Bush/Cheney's OCCUPATION of IRAQ make-sense to the soldiers STUCK there...
Read the Salon story at the link, up-top, Herb.

DOMESTIC SURVEILANCE: TRUST WHO ?

AL GONZALES... HE'S PERHAPS THE VERY-LAST PERSON WE SHOULD BE ASKED, OR EXPECTED, TO TRUST [w/ ANYTHING, LET-ALONE SPYING!] -- IT'S AN INSULT TO THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE PUBLIC; AN "F.U." FROM BUSH.

Gonzales's job as Attorney General was to keep Karl Rove OUT of the Department of Justice -- above politics -- but instead, Gonzales let Karl Rove have the friggin' KEYS to the place! [He still has 'em... the keys.]

That's why we have political trials from partisan Federal Prosecutors that'll pollute the Courts for decades... if they're not FIRED! All Bush's crony-oily-texas-hack appointments should be reviewed, and replaced if incompetent -- as so many have proven to be.

Congress Approves Bush's Illegal Domestic Spying? ...What? *CANCEL*...*ESCAPE*!!!

UPDATE 8/6: In an editorial entitled, “Warrantless Surrender,” the Washington Post writes that Congress was “stampeded into another compromise of Americans’ rights.” The Post adds the bill was “as reckless as it was unnecessary” and “was scarcely considered at all.”
-END UPDATE-And that's the Post, so... 'Nuff said!

Bush created a false sense-of-urgency, citing the Boogey Man, and telling Congress the Capitol would
uh~implode!~ if they didn't act fast. Actually Bush was panicking because a Federal Judge recently confirmed the NSA eavesdropping-gig is
completely illegal...
BUSH needed to PROTECT
HIMSELF, not the public...

THEY SCREWED-UP: George Bush, and Alberto Gonzales now have the legal-authority to spy on you and I without a warrant, at any time...
We recall in one Gonzales appearance before Congress when the illegal spying story first broke that he could not provide assurance that the spying was not being used for political purposes. ...Democrats in Congress should be impeaching Gonzales, Cheney and Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors, not enabling their continued efforts to establish a de facto dictatorship for radical extremists.

Bush is as low in the polls as a president has historically been. He and Cheney are one door away from being nailed with multiple counts of illegal activity – and that’s just from what is visible to us at this time. God knows what is still hidden below the tip of the iceberg.

Amidst this sordid unraveling of a corrupt administration that is intent on destroying democracy and the Constitution, the Democrats in the Senate and House give Bush more legal power to spy on us!
I'm voting "disapprove" next-time I get polled on
the job Congress is doing... That'll show 'em.
But what-the-hell was Congress thinking? [The leadership.] Bush asked for twice as much as he wanted... Congress balked a little, and then "compromised," supposedly reigning Bush-in...
Textbook-karl-rove: IT WAS A TOTAL RUSE!

Can someone request a "redo?" ...A Mulligan?
