Bushy & His Wife NOT AMUSED By Stephen Colbert Dinner Speech

[MON. UPDATE: FULL-
TRANSCRIPT, HERE.]

E&P has the story;
Here's some highlights:
WASHINGTON A blistering comedy “tribute” to President Bush by Comedy Central’s... Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent Dinner Saturday night left George and Laura Bush unsmiling at its close.
:::
Colbert... urged the Bush to ignore his low approval ratings, saying they were based on reality, "and reality has a well-known liberal bias."
:::
He attacked those in the press who claim that the shake-up at the White House was merely re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. “This administration is soaring, not sinking,” he said. “If anything, they are re-arranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg.”

Colbert told Bush he could end the problem of protests by retired generals by refusing to let them retire. He compared Bush to Rocky Balboa in the “Rocky” movies, always getting punched in the face—“and Apollo Creed is everything else in the world.”

Turning to the war, he declared, "I believe that the government that governs best is a government that governs least, and by these standards we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq."
:::
Colbert also made biting cracks about missing WMDs, “photo ops” on aircraft carriers and at hurricane disasters, melting glaciers and Vice President Cheney shooting people in the face. He advised the crowd, "if anybody needs anything at their tables, speak slowly and clearly on into your table numbers and somebody from the N.S.A. will be right over with a cocktail. "

Observing that Bush sticks to his principles, he said, "When the president decides something on Monday, he still believes it on Wednesday - no matter what happened Tuesday."
:::
Also lampooning the press, Colbert complained that he was “surrounded by the liberal media who are destroying this country, except for Fox News. Fox believes in presenting both sides of the story — the president’s side and the vice president’s side." In another slap at the news channel, he said: "I give people the truth, unfiltered by rational argument. I call it the No Fact Zone. Fox News, I own the copyright on that term." He also reflected on the alleged
good old days for the president, when the media was still swallowing the WMD story.
:::
As Colbert walked from the podium, when it was over, the president and First Lady gave him quick nods, unsmiling. The president shook his hand and tapped his elbow, and left immediately.

Those seated near Bush told E&P's Joe Strupp, who was elsewhere in the room, that Bush had quickly turned from an amused guest to an obviously offended target as Colbert’s comments brought up his low approval ratings and problems in Iraq
...
That's funny mang.
Bush was "offended?" Now he knows how We feel. Right? Right.

I'm Lookin' for the whole transcript of Colbert's Dinner comments (that got the First Lady's knickers twisted!). Will post it if I find it... Searchin', Herb...

THE IRAQ WHORE!!!

Karl Rove TESTIFIES AGAIN in the Rove-CIA-Leak Case

Karl Rove's attorney claimed he's been assured by the Prosecutor that Rove "is not a target" of Fitzgerald's Grand Jury treason-leak investigation. The "press" dutifully reports that meaningless statement. Rove is a SUBJECT of the investigation, and if someone answers "Yes," or something else to a certain question, then Rove immediately becomes a "target," and then his weasel attorney won't say it anymore... A stupid word-game. Manipulative and deceptive... in this case, just like his client:Justice can be tortoise-paced...
Karl's probably trying to confuse Fitzgerald with word-games and deception, like he does the press & public. I hope Fitzgerald is letting Rove re-tie his own noose each time he testifies...
Patience, Herb.

Tony Snow has a MASSIVE HEAD... ["Gargantuan"]

FOX NEWS's Tony Snow announced as Scott McLellan's replacement for W.H. Official Spokesman. Tony Snow, from Fox News? Enough said...

BUT: Via Atrios, The Poorman, on Snow's excessively large-sized head:
The biggest fucking head this side of Brit Hume. I don’t know where FOX finds these fucking hydrocephaloids to do its news shows - Easter Island, maybe, or the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade - but somebody needs to find that place and destroy it, because enough is fucking enough already. I don’t watch FOX News, but sometimes I have to flip by it, and everytime it’s like fucking Attack of the Head People over there...
Like I said, Enough said!

Except, via Thinkprogress here, here's some not-so-nice things Tony Snow has..., SAID, about the Bush Administration over the years:

– Bush has “lost control of the federal budget and cannot resist the temptation to stop raiding the public fisc.” [3/17/06]
– “George W. Bush and his colleagues have become... the custodians of the largest government in the history of humankind...” [3/17/06]
– “President Bush... listless domestic policy.” [2/3/06]
– “George Bush has become something of an embarrassment.” [11/11/05]
– Bush “has a habit of singing from the Political Correctness hymnal.” [10/7/05]
– “No president has looked this impotent this long when it comes to defending presidential powers...” [9/30/05]]
– “When it comes to federal spending, George W. Bush is the boy who can’t say no...[The Detroit News, 12/28/03]
– “The president doesn’t seem to give a rip about spending restraint.” [The Detroit News, 12/28/03]
– “Bush, ...bolstered his detractors’ claims that he didn’t have the drive and work ethic to succeed.” [11/16/00]
– “He recently tried... discussing the vagaries of Congressional Budget Office economic forecasts, but his recitation of numbers proved so bewildering that not even his aides could produce a comprehensible translation. The English Language has become a minefield for the man
..."
ENOUGH SAID... Now, Herb.

"BOLD-RESOLVE" IS NOT-GOOD... WHEN YOU'RE ALWAYS DEAD-WRONG

ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE -- JOINS THE CHORUS OF EXPERTS & OBSERVERS CALLING BUSH JR. "THE WORST PRESIDENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY." COVER-STORY:

"The Worst President in History?"
"One of America's leading historians assesses George W. Bush: George W. Bush's presidency appears headed for COLOSSAL HISTORICAL DISGRACE*..."
Many historians are now wondering whether Bush, in fact, will be remembered as the very worst president in all of American history...
:::
THE CREDIBILITY GAP: No previous president appears to have squandered the public's trust more than Bush has.
:::
BUSH AT WAR: Until the twentieth century, American presidents managed foreign wars well -- including those presidents who prosecuted unpopular wars...
(After 9/11 & Afghanistan) Bush... Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, were planting the seeds for the crises to come by diverting the struggle against Al Qaeda toward an all-out effort to topple their pre-existing target, Saddam Hussein...
:::
BUSH AT HOME: Bush came to office in 2001 pledging to govern as a "compassionate conservative," more moderate on domestic policy than the dominant right wing of his party. The pledge proved hollow...
Bush's domestic policy has turned out to be nothing more than a series of massively regressive tax cuts -- a return, with a vengeance, to the discredited Reagan-era supply-side faith that Bush's father once ridiculed as "voodoo economics."
:::
PRESIDENTIAL MISCONDUCT: Virtually every presidential administration dating back to George Washington's has faced charges of misconduct and threats of impeachment against the president or his civil officers. The alleged offenses have usually involved matters of personal misbehavior and corruption...Bush's alarmingly aberrant take on the Constitution is ironic**. One need go back in the record less than a decade to find prominent Republicans railing against far more minor presidential legal infractions as precursors to all-out totalitarianism. "I will have no part in the creation of a constitutional double-standard to benefit the president," Sen. Bill Frist declared of Bill Clinton's efforts to conceal an illicit sexual liaison...
Having confused steely resolve with what Ralph Waldo Emerson called "a foolish consistency . . . adored by little statesmen," Bush has become entangled in tragedies of his own making...:::
CONCLUSION: Bush doesn't seem to be concerned about his place in history. "History. We won't know," he told the journalist Bob Woodward in 2003. "We'll all be dead."
* "COLOSSAL HISTORICAL DISGRACE?"
...Indeed!

** "IRONIC?"
...Same!
--Herb.

WE HAVE A DREAM...

LEAKING LIES & DISINFORMATION...

New York Times EDITORIAL: "A Bad Leak..."
President Bush says he declassified portions of the prewar intelligence assessment on Iraq because he "wanted people to see the truth" about Iraq's weapons programs and to understand why he kept accusing Saddam Hussein of stockpiling weapons that turned out not to exist. This would be a noble sentiment if it actually bore any relationship to Mr. Bush's actions in this case, or his overall record.

Mr. Bush did not declassify the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq — in any accepted sense of that word — when he authorized I. Lewis Libby Jr., through Vice President Dick Cheney, to talk about it with reporters. He permitted a leak of cherry-picked portions of the report. The declassification came later.And this president has never shown the slightest interest in disclosure, except when it suits his political purposes. He has run one of the most secretive administrations in American history...
:::
...(T)he version of the facts that Mr. Libby was authorized to divulge was so distorted that it seems more like disinformation than any sincere attempt to inform the public.

This fits the pattern of Mr. Bush's original sales pitch on the Iraq war — hyping the intelligence that bolstered his case and suppressing the intelligence that undercut it...
"A bad leak," indeed. Have they no shame? Okay... stupid-question, Herb.

SIX RETIRED U.S. GENERALS CALL FOR RUMSFELD TO RESIGN

NY Times:"More Retired Generals Call for Rumsfeld's Resignation..."
WASHINGTON, April 13 — The widening circle of retired generals who have stepped forward to call for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's resignation is shaping up as an unusual outcry that could pose a significant challenge to Mr. Rumsfeld's leadership, current and former generals said on Thursday...
Remember Bush in his speeches, saying: "the decisions will be made by the officers on the ground, and not by politicians in D.C.?"
Well, Umm... NEVERMIND!

Those on-the-ground officers; they all hate Rummy. Because he never listens to them. Arrogant, incompetent, and dismissive, they say... Later, Herb.

Don't believe the Iraq stories that say, "ON THE BRINK," "ON THE VERGE OF," or "LOW-LEVEL..." IT'S CIVIL WAR, period!

IT'S "CIVIL WAR," damnit... And we have no business there. Never really did...
In the 29-day period following the mosque attack, 955 people were murdered in Baghdad province, which includes the capital city and its outskirts, according to the U.S. military.

That's more than the number of murders in New York City, San Francisco, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and Seattle combined for all of 2004, according to the FBI. Those cities have a combined population of 10.8 million, compared with Baghdad province's 7 million.
:::
Insurgents have turned their "focus in the last three months to the softest target (they) can find," said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, the chief U.S. military spokesman. "And that's the innocent men, women and children of Iraq."
:::
Almost every day bodies of civilians, many shot execution-style and dumped by the side of the road, are turning up.

It's often difficult to tell who is doing the killing. On Thursday, six Iraqis were found dead in a car in Baghdad, according to the U.S. military. All were blindfolded with their hands bound. On Friday, U.S. and Iraqi forces found the bodies of 13 executed Iraqis in western Baghdad, according to a U.S. military statement. The bodies were spread along a road
.
Especially if it's YOUR sons, nephews, brothers, father, or grandfather who disappear, and end up executed with their hands bound, or decapitated, and dumped on some Bagdad street like trash -- to make a statement -- because your family lived in a Sunni neighborhood and you're Shyite; or vice versa. Sometimes brutal-dictators actually "keep the peace," in the 'hoods...
65,000 Families have had to flee their neighborhood for this not quite on-the-verge civil war...
At least 65,000 Iraqis have fled their homes as a result of sectarian violence and intimidation, according to new figures from the Iraqi government.
"Low-level" nothing! Not on the ground in Iraq! "On the friggin' verge?" Of what... complete-annihilation?

Damn politicians... GULLIBLE MEDIA STENOGRAPHERS! Stupid neocons... (and this administration's constant BS about EVERYTHING). Sheesh, Herb.

Jesus Christ, The President's Insane!

Here's a couple choice paragraphs, to frighten you, from Seymor Hersh's New Yorker article on Iran (here we go again...)
A government consultant with close ties to the civilian leadership in the Pentagon said that Bush was "absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb" if it is not stopped. He said that the President believes that he must do "what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do," and "that saving Iran is going to be his legacy."

One former defense official, who still deals with sensitive issues for the Bush Administration, told me that the military planning was premised on a belief that "a sustained bombing campaign in Iran will humiliate the religious leadership and lead the public to rise up and overthrow the government." He added, "I was shocked when I heard it, and asked myself, 'What are they smoking?'..."
Un-believable. Mad (insane), Herb.

How IMPEACHMENT Works...

THE END, Herb.

A PICTURE...

...1,000 WORDS, Herb.

Leaker-in-Chief, Liar-in-Chief, Hypocrite-in-Chief... "High Crimes & Misdemeanors?"

Imagine how much of Our Country's strength, honor, and dignity would remain if the President was just concealing a blowjob-with-an-intern from EVERYBODY?

Unrelatedly, Buzzflash says, linking to: this video:
...Bush Leaked Skewed Classified Information in Order to Lie to a Reporter About a Man Who Was Telling the Truth About His Lying. No One Else in the Government Seemed to Know That He Had Magically Declassified the Information, Which Was Then Misrepresented. MORE Bush/Cheney-FRAUD: Phone-Jamming Records Point to White House

This was 2002...
The records show that Bush campaign operative James Tobin, who recently was convicted in the case, made two dozen calls to the White House within a three-day period around Election Day 2002 — as the phone jamming operation was finalized, carried out and then abruptly shut down.The national Republican Party, which paid millions in legal bills to defend Tobin, says the contacts involved routine election business and that it was "preposterous" to suggest the calls involved phone jamming.
Think about how important it is for the White House NOW (2006 elections) to steal the Congressional elections, and avoid any SERIOUS oversight and subpoena-power investigations. Holy Shy-ite! That's all. Watch out, Herb.

MARS, 2006

LOS ANGELES (April 9) - Scientists have processed more than a dozen new photos taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which arrived at the Red Planet last month, including its first color image...MORE, HERE. Later, Herb.

Burning-pants... FIRE! Lies, Lying LIAR (and the hypocrisy, OY!)

One day the President answered questions about the Rove-CIA-Leak Scandal. It was September 30th, 2003... With a sh!t-eating grin on his face, he laughed and acted like a smug spoiled-brat (child), and from what we learned recently, we now know: HE LIED. The transcript follows...

Q Do you think that the Justice Department can conduct an impartial investigation, considering the political ramifications of the CIA leak, and why wouldn't a special counsel be better?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes. Let me just say something about leaks in Washington. There are too many leaks of classified information in Washington. There's leaks at the executive branch; there's leaks in the legislative branch. There's just too many leaks. And if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of.

And so I welcome the investigation. I -- I'm absolutely confident that the Justice Department will do a very good job. There's a special division of career Justice Department officials who are tasked with doing this kind of work; they have done this kind of work before in Washington this year. I have told our administration, people in my administration to be fully cooperative.

I want to know the truth. If anybody has got any information inside our administration or outside our administration, it would be helpful if they came forward with the information so we can find out whether or not these allegations are true and get on about the business.

Yes, let's see, Kemper -- he's from Chicago. Where are you? Are you a Cubs or White Sox fan? (Laughter.) Wait a minute. That doesn't seem fair, does it? (Laughter.)

Q Yesterday we were told that Karl Rove had no role in it --

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q -- have you talked to Karl and do you have confidence in him --

THE PRESIDENT: Listen, I know of nobody -- I don't know of anybody in my administration who leaked classified information. If somebody did leak classified information, I'd like to know it, and we'll take the appropriate action. And this investigation is a good thing.

And again I repeat, you know, Washington is a town where there's all kinds of allegations. You've heard much of the allegations. And if people have got solid information, please come forward with it. And that would be people inside the information who are the so-called anonymous sources, or people outside the information -- outside the administration. And we can clarify this thing very quickly if people who have got solid evidence would come forward and speak out. And I would hope they would.

And then we'll get to the bottom of this and move on. But I want to tell you something -- leaks of classified information are a bad thing. And we've had them -- there's too much leaking in Washington. That's just the way it is. And we've had leaks out of the administrative branch, had leaks out of the legislative branch, and out of the executive branch and the legislative branch, and I've spoken out consistently against them and I want to know who the leakers are...
The End, Herb.

ADD. The HYPOCRISY is pretty deep, too!

Science Friday - Evolution, or More STUPID DESIGN?

NY Times has the story...
Scientists have discovered fossils of a 375-million-year-old fish, a large scaly creature not seen before, that they say is a long-sought missing link in the evolution of some fishes from water to a life walking on four limbs on land.
:::
The skeletons have the fins, scales and other attributes of a giant fish, four to nine feet long. But on closer examination, the scientists found telling anatomical traits of a transitional creature, a fish that is still a fish but has changes that anticipate the emergence of land animals — and is thus a predecessor of amphibians, reptiles and dinosaurs, mammals and eventually humans.
No way! Those scientists must not have read the Bible! God created everything exactly how it is... (in seven days). Like Jethro said, "Fish didn't make lizards, God did."

"Praise Jesus!" Indeed, Herb.

Bush & Cheney vs. Somebody Under Oath

Josh @ talkingpointsmemo.com asks:
...Scooter Libby has sworn under oath that Vice President Cheney told him that President Bush had authorized him to disclose classified information.
:::
If it isn't true that Vice President Cheney told him that, then Vice President Cheney must know that Libby has again perjured himself. I would think the Vice President has an affirmative duty to come forward and say that Libby's testimony is false...
We concur... But let's remember, Dick Cheney doesn't do to well with "duties," as vice-president or otherwise. Don't hold your breath waiting for Dick to do the right thing!
Tired and bored, Herb.

On The President (Bush) Leaking Like A Sieve, And Lying Like A Rug... During a "War!"

REMEMBER, KIDS:
It wasn't about THE SEX.
It was ABOUT THE LYING!!
I can't think of anything else to say, but I found a few thoughts at Atrios's site, Eschaton...

Starting with Atrios, himself:
(T)he president bypassed normal declassification procedures - put in place to ensure that revealing information does not threaten national security - in order to wage a political battle. Whether strictly legal or not, it's an act of a man who puts himself above the country. For shame.
Then, quoting CNN's Bill Schneider:
(Bush) was leaking... sensitive intelligence information apparently for political reasons, political reasons, not national security reasons. And that, I think, is going to be very difficult to explain.
And Senator Jane Harman:
The President has the legal authority to declassify information, but there are normal channels for doing so. Telling an aide to leak classified information to the New York Times is not a normal channel.A normal declassification procedure would involve going back to the originating agency, such as the CIA, and then putting out a public, declassified version of the document...
Finally, Atrios again:
It's probably reasonable that the president can declassify whatever he wants, or at least I haven't really seen an especially strong argument to the contrary, but that doesn't mean that the president can declassify stuff, show it to Judy Miller, and then turn around claim the stuff is still classified. That's where this argument falls apart.
Amen brothers & sisters... And,"Duh," Herb.

"Loose Lips Sink Ships?" Bush & Cheney, Big-Time LEAKERS... And Liars, & Hypocrites (NYT)

NY Times:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney authorized Cheney's top aide to launch a counterattack of leaks against administration critics on Iraq by feeding intelligence information to reporters, according to court papers citing the aide's testimony in the CIA leak case.
:::
(T)he vice president was trying to use Plame's CIA employment to discredit her husband, administration critic Joseph Wilson. Cheney, according to an indictment against Libby, knew that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA as early as June 12, 2003, more than a month before that fact turned up in a column by Robert Novak.
:::
In 2003, when the public furor erupted over the disclosure of a CIA operative's status, Bush said he wanted to get to the bottom of the affair. "I want to know the truth," he said at the time.

Libby's testimony puts the president and the vice president in the awkward position of authorizing leaks. Both men have long said they abhor such practices, so much so that the administration has put in motion criminal investigations at their behest to hunt down leakers.
Before, and since the invasion of Iraq, Bush and Cheney lied... repeatedly. They used designated deceivers. They delegated deception as a matter of course.

They shamelessly USED Congress and the press, and misinformed the public... Not surprisingly, it was President Cheney's idea, and Bush approved...
Worst President, EVER!
Not surprised, Herb.
